What Do You Most Value? Icebreaker

by Debbie Michaelson
(Ogden, Utah, USA)

Give each participant five pieces of paper and have them write down five things (one per paper) they most value. For example: money, job, children, spouse, god, etc.

Next, have them imagine that they are on an island and they have to give up one of their items in order to be around other people. What would they give up to get food when the food has run out? What would they give up for water? And finally, to get a boat, what would they give up?

This thought exercise will leave each person with one last item - their most valued item. Have everyone read out loud their final item and ask them why they kept that one for last.
