Pulling Names from a Hat Icebreaker

A quick introductions game, best for small groups (6 - 10).
Give all participants small pieces of paper equal to the number of letters in their first name (for example, Betty would get five pieces of paper). Then have them write one thing about themselves starting with the first letter of their name on each individual piece of paper (Betty might write "bookworm", "baker", etc.), or starting with each of the letters in their name ("baker", "excitable", "trendy", etc.). If you wish, you can prompt them with categories like "favourite colour".
Once the pieces of paper are filled out, put them all into a hat and mix. Pull out one at a time and see who claims it, then hand back that bit of paper to them. Write each letter on the board as it is claimed.
When you have finished, everyone's names should be written on the board. Everyone can then introduce themselves with their name and their written submissions in full.
By the time they have to stand up, everyone has had a giggle and is more comfortable with each other.
