Group Size - Medium (5-20)

Group Abilities - Some Physical Activity
Icebreaker Purpose - Energy Boost
Preparation - none
Materials - broomstick
Time - 5-10 minutes

I teach in a special needs unit where all of the kids are deaf and some of them have other needs as well. I find it challenging to find energisers that can suit their communication skills, level and ability (one is in a wheelchair, one has Cerebral Palsy, one has sight problems as well as being deaf.)

The group makes two lines and face each other. Each person holds out their index fingers only, palms up.

The group leader lays a broomstick across their fingers. The fingers MUST stay in contact with the stick at all times.

The goal is for the group to lower the broomstick to the ground.

It sounds really easy but it is a lot of fun to watch them trying to lower it but pushing up a the same time so that their fingers stay on the stick. My kids always have fun with this game.

I can't remember where I first found this game described so I am not claiming it as original - just one we really enjoy.

We have a quality circle time every Tuesday morning to start the day off and hopefully boost their self esteem. It is really challenging but we have a lot of fun.
