by Carmen Chim
(Hong Kong)

Suitable for 2 teams or more (less than 10 people in each team)

Duration: 20-30 minutes

Materials: Drawing paper e.g. flip chart and pen, one set per team. You may want to print a set of rules for each team.

Aims of the game:
- team building
- understand that they need a leader for team work
- learn to discuss and share responsibility
- learn to listen to suggestions

Drawing Theme: A cat in the sitting room

Each team are given one pen.

Person A starts drawing, when the pen leaves the paper, he must stop drawing and pass the pen to person B. Person B starts drawing, when the pen leaves the paper, he must stop drawing and pass the pen to person C..... and so on.

Ice Breaker Exercise Rules:
a) every one gets to draw on the paper once only
b) finish the drawing in 10 minutes
c) they can talk about how to draw before they start drawing
d) cannot trace (cannot draw on the line that already drew)

The drawing theme can be changed to suit, and can be played again by the same team members.

This ice breaker exercise is guaranteed to produce very different and creative results, and provide much frustration and competition throughout.

The most value will be gained if there is a period of reflection and learning after the game, where the team discuss the roles they played and what worked or didn't work, and what they'd do differently next time.
