Describe Your Teammates

Making people laugh

Making people laugh

This exercise can be done with big or small groups and helps build team spirit, helps people get to know one another, and helps self-esteem.

Keeping in mind the saying, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all," everyone in the group gets a small pack of Post-it notes. Each participant's name is put on a large piece of paper and hung on the wall for all to see.

Then give the group ten minutes or so to go around to each poster, write a word or phrase describing that person on a Post-it note, and stick it on the person's poster. Keep it positive!

(Alternately, each participant could be given a marker and allowed to write directly on the posters.)

At the end, you might have your office assistant type up a 'Certificate of Excellence' for each person with their words and phrases, to hang at their work station. For instance, some of mine read:

1. Full of life, energy, and fun.
2. Sees the good in people.
3. Makes me laugh.
4. Humour.
5. Simply the best.

This can be a lot of fun and make people talk about each other. When we read them out loud, you could see people nodding in agreement.
