Add Up the Group - Logic Icebreaker

by Kirana
(Covina, California, USA)

Group Size: Large (20+)

Group Abilities: Some physical ability
Icebreaker Purpose: Mental workout
Materials: small pieces of paper with numbers written on them.
Time: 10 minutes

Give each participant a random number on a piece of paper (for example, 25, 50, 100, 10, and so on). That number is the person's 'value' in this game.

As the group leader, pick a larger number and ask the group to find people with whom they can "add up" until they reach the requested number.

For example, if the requested number is 500, a "totalled" group might consist of three people who have a value of 100 and four people who are 50s. (100 + 100 + 100 + 50 + 50 + 50 + 50 = 500)

To encourage the participants to use logic to form groups that leave no one out, you can assign a punishment to anyone standing alone as a "remainder", such as having to sing for the group or reveal their favorite animal.
